i remember every day in school, we had to recite the Texan anthem along with the national...i couldn't believe you guys even have your own flag

Every state in the Union has it's own flag but ours is the only one allowed to fly at the same hight as the US flag. Our state mammal is the armadillo (although it disturbs me that we'd pick the one animal that can carry leporsy), state bird is the mocking bird which has a beautiful song and the state tree is the pecan. I'd argue that it should be the mesquite but I'd lose.
Also, many states have a semester of state history in jr. high (or middle school, a rose by any other name still has thorns), we have a full year. What can I say, we were a soverign nation before joining the US.
I'm from Harlingen which is 25 miles north of the final battle of the civil war. Fought a month after the war was over. Ironically, the confederates won.
Remember kids, it's grat to learn. (Everyone) Cause knowledge is power.
